Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals at Car Hire Bathgate are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with us requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Bathgate Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type. Drivers under 25 may incur additional fees. A valid driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. Valid payment information and a security deposit must also be provided. Please review the Rental Agreement for any further requirements.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Bathgate office. A deposit may be needed to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are displayed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where relevant. We accept major credit and debit cards, and transactions are securely handled by trusted payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is crucial to inspect the car thoroughly and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition as it was received, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure the vehicle is returned with the same amount of fuel as at collection; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you expect to be late. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges that occur during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Detailed coverage information and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be available, which can help lower your financial responsibility. It is important to review these options. You remain liable for damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for additional coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other potentially dangerous operations is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is strictly against policy. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes and within specified passenger and weight limits. Travel outside the agreed geographical boundaries requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Bathgate will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the amount you paid for the rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence, or in cases of fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
