Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities regarding the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with us requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Bathgate Car Hire, you must be a minimum of 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. You are required to present a valid full driving licence relevant to the vehicle category, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address must be provided, along with payment information and a security deposit. Additional requirements specified in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Bathgate office. A deposit may be needed to confirm your booking. The total payment and security deposit are usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, acknowledging normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. The vehicle must also be returned with the same level of fuel as received; otherwise, refueling fees will apply. Late returns could incur extra charges, so please reach out to us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle late. You are accountable for any parking tickets, traffic fines, or other charges that arise during your rental, along with a service fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Detailed coverage information and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be available to limit your financial liability, and we suggest reviewing these options closely. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless additional coverage applies. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Your Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-road driving. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Use the vehicle only for its intended purposes and within specified passenger and weight limits. Travel outside designated geographical boundaries requires prior authorization.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Bathgate is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may result from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not affect our liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Legal Framework
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon publication on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
